The vast majority of spirits on the market are produced by large corporations. They use heavily industrialized processes in order to produce large quantities of alcohol. Though quality may be important to them, they are primarily concerned with quantity and efficiency as they supply enormous amounts of alcohol in markets worldwide, supported by multi-million dollar marketing budgets. Still Waters Distillery is at the other end of the spectrum. We make our vodka and whiskies by hand in small batches. This ensures that each individual batch meets our highest standards for quality. We actually bottle and pack each of our products by hand. We believe that pride in our products extends from selection of ingredients, through the distillation process, right through to the finished product. Our prices reflect the care that goes into creating a quality hand-crafted product, not the overhead associated with running multi-million dollar sales and marketing operations and industrial processes. We believe that you should be paying for the best quality products, not for packaging, marketing, sales and distribution. We think that you will notice the difference the very first time that you taste our vodka and whiskies!
The Distillers
Barry Bernstein and Barry Stein
After years of enjoying fine whiskies and other spirits together, Barry Bernstein and Barry Stein decided that their future lay in the alcoholic beverage industry. They embarked on a journey that established them as Canada's first (and only!) independent bottler of whisky. They sourced unique Single Malt Scotches of varying ages from different distilleries. They imported the casks and bottled the products themselves, selling their exclusive offerings across Canada. Three years later, after they applied their more than 50 years combined business experience to this industry, they decided to take the next giant, but logical, step. To truly satisfy their desire to be involved in all aspects of the industry, as well as to satiate their creative side, Barry and Barry decided to distill their own spirits. In January of 2009, after a year of planning, training and education, and dogged persistence, Still Waters Distillery was launched. They took possession of a custom made pot still, imported from Germany, and two months later, after all the setup and installation was complete, the first alcohol flowed!
