The Vineyard
Catie’s Corner Vineyard – Russian River Valley
Our Viognier is from Saralee Kunde's Vineyard in the Russian River Valley called Catie's Corner. It rests on a small knoll on the southwestern edge of Windsor. The clone of Viognier originally comes from a small town in the Northern Rhone called Condrieu. Organically farmed.
Bella Vigna Vineyard – Sonoma Coast
Located on the southwest edge of Sebastopol this steeply sloped, southeasterly facing hillside is planted half in Swan and half 777. Morning fog, warm midday sun, cool afternoon breezes and Goldridge Loams soils all contribute to a world class site for growing Pinot Noir. Sustainably farmed.
Hirsch Vineyard – Sonoma Coast
One of the first coastal vineyards in California to be recognized for superior quality Pinot Noir, Hirsh looks directly out onto the Pacific Ocean. The fruit we are getting comes from two different blocks and two different clones. One clone is Mt. Eden and receives a direct marine influence while the Pommard is nestled just down the ridge and is a little more sheltered.
Pleasant Hill Vineyard – Russian River Valley
Bob Jenkins’ vineyard sits just west of downtown of Sebastopol. Dijon clones 115, 667, and 777 thrive here. Charlie Chenowith manages the vineyard and has done so sustainably since he planted the place.
Guidici Family Vineyard – Sonoma Coast
Pushing the envelope on spots you can actually grow syrah while coaxing out that Northern Rhone character, again Charlie Chenowith sustainably farms the vineyard. It sits on the edge of Occidental.
Phoenix Ranch – Napa Valley
Cool climate area of south Napa east of the Siverado Trail. Estrella River and Syrah Noir clones are what we work with from this vineyard. Sustainably farmed.
The Winemaker
Jamey Whetstone
I started working at Turley Wine Cellars in the summer of 1998 when I semi-jokingly told a friend I’d do just about anything for a shot at winemaking (be very careful what you ask for.). Over the following 6 & ½ years I would plant 30 acres of hillside vineyard, become fluent in Spanish, help manage over 200 organically farmed acres of grapes, become assistant winemaker, start my own label, and begin consulting full time. Turley provided for me a venue to do all those things with a continuing education in hands-on farming and meticulous, cutting-edge winemaking. To further enhance my small winery experience, I went to work in Burgundy for Domaine Dujac during a short stint in the summer of 2001.
These days I am full-time debtor for Whetstone, CEO and Co-Founder of Manifesto! Wines, and a consulting winemaker for JT Wines.
My love for wine has taken me down several paths that have ultimately merged in the form of Whetstone Wine Cellars. Offerings will consist of Pinot Noir, Syrah, Viognier and Chardonnay. I appreciate your interest in our site and in our wines.
